Although small, the risk of infection with abdominal surgery is real. In order to reduce the risk of infection, you will be on a special bowel preparation program.
Take your regular medications (except aspirin or aspirin products, ibuprofen, Naprosyn, etc.), unless otherwise informed. You may have a regular breakfast and then start clear liquids. Clear liquids consist of things such as juices without pulp, water, soda, coffee, broth, Jell-O, etc.
After breakfast, you must limit your diet to clear liquids. This is most important!! NO SOLID FOODS, NO MILK PRODUCTS OR DAIRY PRODUCTS….Please!!
We recommend a glass of juice, tea, coffee, soda, water every hour. You should push fluids as much as possible.
- Take two (2) Dulcolax tablets at 11 AM the day prior to surgery.
- Fleet Enema at 6 PM. Use as directed by the instructions on the box.
(You can get the Dulcolax tablets and Fleet Enema at any drugstore, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc.)
Unless otherwise notified, you will have no food or liquids after midnight before your procedure.
Thank you for your help and please call if you have any questions.
REMEMBER — No Aspirin, aspirin products, ibuprofen, naprosyn, etc. 7-10 days before your surgery!!!!!
